Volker Nolte After Mike Spracklen left Canada for the U.S. at the end of the 1992 Olympics, the new keeper of the Modern Orthodox flame for Canada became Volker Nolte, West German expatriate coach and biomechanics professor at the University of Western Ontario. Nolte is well known for having designed the Empacher sliding-rigger single with which Peter Michael Kolbe won the World Singles Championship in 1981.6840 He also coached the 1993 Canadian Lightweight Men’s Eight to a Gold Medal in Račice, Czech Republic, and he has edited the ubiquitous comprehensive technical manual, Rowing Faster.
